Notes from Choreographer: "I first approached the Summer section by providing choreography exercises to the dancers. Through these initial experimentations, I began to see the dancers' personalities emerge along with images that I wanted to continue working with. This included images of free, confident women, which reminded me of the photographs I have seen of Woodstock and the summer of 1969. At the same time news and images were circulating about the devastating fires in Australia and the repercussions of climate change were thrown into the foreground of my thought process. The utopian images of Woodstock--encapsulating notions of freedom, activism, and hope--combined with the terror of these fires and represented our need to work toward a future for all of us."
