Notes from Choreographer: Rites of Seasons is the dance program’s first foray into creating an evening length dance piece, in which the choreographers, designers, and music composer extensively collaborated to create a shared narrative and a seamless experience for the audience. The uniqueness of each season, the evolving ecological terrain of each season, and the ritual of changing seasons are prominently featured in the movement, music, and visual design elements. The dramatic arc of the work was carefully crafted and reflected in the meticulously composed movement and sound score. Tonight’s production is the epitome of a fully integrated artistic collaboration and the result of a two-year research and conceptual process. I am grateful to Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences, Fund for Excellence Grant, which afforded this educational and artistic opportunity for our students. It has been a personal highlight of my Elon career to work on Rites of Seasons with my talented dance, design, and music colleagues and our equally gifted student artists and technicians. It is my hope that this level of collaboration continues to transcend our entire artistic community at Elon.
